The Cathedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia is the seat of the Archdiocese of Barcelona. In addition, it is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It was renamed Somorrostro relatively recently in memory of the homonymous slum that was demolished after a century on the occasion of Franco’s visit to Barcelona in 1966. Somorrostro is next to La Barceloneta and has a very central location with good means of transport. It`s one of the most popular beaches for tourists and young people.
There are many restaurants at Port Olímpic. The youth of Barcelona meet here in the evenings. In 1992 Port Olímpic was built for the Olympic Games. The crumbling factory halls were demolished and the Olympic village was built for athletes. This created modern apartment houses in which the athletes were accommodated. All of these apartments were sold before they were completed for the post-Olympic period. There is the new popular Olympic harbor and marina.
