Catvents and Biosphere
After a year working on it, we can now say that Catvents and Biosphere is certified!
We assume that many of you will not have been taken by surprise, seeing our latest blog post on the carbon footprint and our new section on the website on sustainability. But what many of you did not know is that we have achieved a sustainable certification after a year of applying measures and monitoring changes.
But before we celebrate, let’s start at the beginning:
What is Biosphere Tourism?
In short, it is a body focused on improving sustainability in the field of tourism. To do this, it develops certifications that help improve all the aspects that encompass a destination (economic, socio-cultural and environmental), creating a good balance between all dimensions. In other words, through certain measures and different requirements, they make many companies begin to be more sustainable and help ensure a better future for future generations.
Thanks to them, many companies like ours can start designing products and experiences based on inclusive, sustainable and non-aggressive tourism.
¿And what is this BIOSPHERE© certification©?
Very simply, it is the internationally recognized certification given to companies committed to tourism sustainability.
However, it is not given lightly. All companies willing to embark on this project have to meet a list of requirements before being considered sustainable. Having it helps us improve our performance and we can offer more sustainable experiences, more committed to the environment.
This certification is granted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), which was born supported by UNESCO and is the one that has enabled cooperation between both organizations through different activities, events and projects.
And now comes the big question, and what does this mean? Or, better said, how does it affect us?
To you, shortly. And this is not bad, what we want to say is that our boat experiences will continue to function as before. You will be able to continue enjoying our outings, both private and shared, with an addition: sustainability.
Some of the changes that we have already applied or are going to see are the following:
- Use of more sustainable materials with the cutlery, glasses and utensils that we have on the boats.
- Regulation of water and expense of ships.
- Conversion of ships to more sustainable engines.
- More information about sustainability and caring for the sea at your disposal (either by talking to our crew or with information posters).
- Etc.
And it is that Catvents and Biosphere has made several resources available to us to improve sustainability in the company, as well as access to various tools and information. So we hope to continue collaborating with them and improving sustainability in every step we take.
