This year, 30 years of Get Wet for Multiple Sclerosis have been celebrated, and Catvents has collaborated with the event organized by the Fundació Sclerosis Múltiple, Barcelona Capital Náutica and Multiple Sclerosis Spain to present the 2023 edition and celebrate this special event.
Last Wednesday, June 28, the presentation of the 30th edition of Get Wet for Multiple Sclerosis was held in Barcelona, and from Catvents we have collaborated in solidarity by contributing our grain of sand in this important act.
The event took place with an outing to the sea on our TurTur catamaran, in which the godmother of the event, Ona Carbonell, jumped into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Barcelona to encourage all citizens to get wet on Sunday, July 9. for Multiple Sclerosis. The press attended the event to cover such an important presentation.
Ona Carbonell is a swimmer who competed in synchronized swimming. She is the woman with the most medals in the history of the swimming world championships and one of the most successful athletes in Spain. He participated in three Summer Olympic Games between 2012 and 2021, obtaining two medals in London 2012, duet silver and team bronze. In addition, he has won 36 medals in international competitions.
With these acts of solidarity, Ona shows that she is a person with a firm social commitment in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. From Catvents we send you a greeting and a big hug.

The funds raised in the “Get wet for Multiple Sclerosis” campaign are earmarked for the care and rehabilitation of people with Multiple Sclerosis and their families. The campaign aims to make visible the 55,000 people who live with this neurodegenerative disease in Spain.
All contributions count!
What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system that affects more than 2.5 million people worldwide. The disease occurs when the body’s immune system attacks myelin, a fatty substance that coats nerve fibers. Myelin acts as an electrical insulator and allows nerve impulses to travel quickly through the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged or destroyed, nerve impulses slow down or stop altogether.
The symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis can vary widely and can include fatigue, muscle weakness, balance and coordination problems, vision problems, and cognitive problems. The disease can be difficult to diagnose because the symptoms can be similar to those of other neurological diseases.
In Spain, Multiple Sclerosis affects more than 55,000 people. The proportion of cases of the disease is 120 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which means that 1 in 800 people have Multiple Sclerosis. In 75% of cases, people with Multiple Sclerosis are women. Every year, 1,900 cases are diagnosed in Spain.

There is currently no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, but treatments are available that can help reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms. Treatments may include medications to reduce inflammation and immune system activity, as well as physical and occupational therapies to help improve mobility and cognitive function.
In recent years, new treatments for Multiple Sclerosis have been developed that improve the quality of life of people with this disease. Among the new treatments are disease-modifying therapies such as interferon and glatiramer acetate. New treatments such as the Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor are also being studied for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and secondary progressive MS.
Committed and supportive organizations
The organizing and collaborating associations of the presentation ceremony of the 30th edition of Mójate por la Sclerosis Múltiple are the following:
Multiple Sclerosi Foundation
The Fundació Esclerosi Múltiple was born in 1989 in Barcelona and is a private, non-profit entity. At the Foundation we work to stop the impact of the disease on the lives of people with multiple sclerosis and their environment.
The Foundation fulfills its mission from various areas such as care for recent diagnoses, neurorehabilitation services, job training and mediation, and information on the disease.
The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation maintains a strategic alliance with the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Catalonia (Cemcat), a pole of international excellence in research on the disease. From Cemcat, located in the Vall d’Hebron hospital grounds, work is being done for research focused on neuroimmunological diseases and on improving care.

Barcelona Nautical Capital
The Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation was born in 2005 as Fundació Navegació Oceànica de Barcelona (FNOB) with the aim of promoting sailing. Now, almost 20 years later, it is transformed to cover more lines of activity to turn Barcelona and Catalonia into nautical benchmarks, through the promotion of sailing, sport, sustainability, solidarity, training, the blue economy and the culture of the sea
This foundation also collaborates with the associations that organize Get Wet for Multiple Sclerosis.
Multiple Sclerosis Spain
Multiple Sclerosis Spain is a space for meeting, exchange and continuous learning of people with with this condition and their environment, organizations of people with Multiple Sclerosis, social and health professionals, scientists, donors, volunteers, collaborators… A community aware that only working together as a Great team, they will go all the way.
Multiple Sclerosis Spain was born in 1996 by representatives of six organizations for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Its objective was to create a state organization that would lead the associative movement in Spain together with its entities, which it helps to grow.
This fundamental mission is still valid: Multiple Sclerosis Spain works to support its member associations and foundations so that they can provide the best care for the social, affective and medical needs of those living with Multiple Sclerosis in our country.
Over time, this mission has been joined by others such as work in defense of rights, or the promotion of research, but all directed towards the same goal: that people with with this condition and their families enjoy the best quality of life as we continue to move towards the definitive end of the disease.
